USSES Reports Now Available from ARSA U.S. Sheep Experiment Station Grazing and Associated Activities Project 2016 Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement document, appendices and supporting documents have been posted on the ARS website at ars.usda.gov/News/docs.htm?docid=17878.
The station conducts research activities to develop integrated methods for increasing production efficiency of sheep and simultaneously to improve the sustainability of rangeland ecosystems. In the Revised DEIS, USSES provides alternative grazing options that will be open for public comment.
The Notice of Availability of the Revised DEIS is anticipated to be published in the Federal Register in late March. The period for public comment will be 45 days following publication.
Animal activist groups have dropped a lawsuit to halt sheep grazing at the station after a federal official said grazing would not continue until an environmental analysis is complete.
The lawsuit filed in 2014 claimed USSES didn’t follow federal environmental laws to determine the impacts of sheep grazing on grizzly bears, lynx, wolves, bighorn sheep and other animals.
