The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Monday released an invitation to American lamb companies to sell lamb products for use in federal food and nutrition programs. The offer applies to lamb leg roasts and lamb shoulder chops.
The American Sheep Industry Association's board of directors encouraged the authorization to purchase a minimum of $2 million in section 32 funds to strengthen lamb prices at the farm and ranch level.
Offers must be received by USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service by Wednesday, July 18. Acceptances will be announced by midnight, July 27, with deliveries made between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30.
