Horsemeat Plant Proposed for Missouri
March 2, 2012

Unified Equine is considering building a horsemeat processing plant in southwest Missouri, according to the Associated Press.

The Wyoming-based company has been conducting a feasibility study of a plan to build the plant, which would slaughter and process about 200 horses per day in one shift and then distribute the meat to ethnic and specialty markets in the United States and abroad.

Sue Wallis, a Wyoming state legislator, created the company after the U.S. Department of Agriculture began inspections again for horsemeat plants.
