Signs of Life for Farm Bill
March 30, 2012
The Farm Bill could get out of the Senate before the end of May, according to House Agriculture Committee ranking member Collin Peterson (Minn.).
Peterson said Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (Mich.) indicated last week that the Senate could have a floor debate on a Farm Bill in May.
"Apparently (Senate Majority Leader Harry) Reid has given her a week of floor time in May, I guess," Peterson said. "So they are shooting to try to get out of here by Memorial Day, through the floor."
The Senate could move a bill targeting $23 billion in budget cuts over 10 years, while the House is likely to face cutting $33 billion due to the budget reconciliation process being pushed by House leaders.
