As early as the 1700s, Limners (traveling artists) flocked to Charleston. Many were portrait painters like Samuel Morse, who eventually threw in the brush and invented the Morse code. 
The American Sheep Industry Association/National Lamb Feeders Association Convention will be held in Charleston, S.C., Jan. 22-25, 2014. Programs are being developed.
