S.D. Proclaims April 30 as Money $heep Monday

With the support of the South Dakota Sheep Growers Association, South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has signed a proclamation declaring Monday, April 30, as Money $heep Monday.

The day is based on Money $heep, a non-profit program formed by South Dakota native Carrie Wintle in 2016 that helps children build a financial foundation for the future. Money $heep is centered around the Five Foundations of Financial Literacy: budgeting, saving, income, loans/debt and investment risk. The five foundations were crafted from Wintle's personal experience raising sheep and her continued education in accounting and finance.

The goal is to help youth build a base of financial knowledge that they can use in their individual lives and the economy around them. Thousands of third through fifth graders in the state will receive a free copy of the book Mr. Money $heep on Money $heep Monday.
