Sheep Industry Meets With APHIS
Co-chairs of the American Sheep Industry Association’s Predator Management Committee met with Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) stakeholders in Washington, D.C. the last week to October to engage in a meaningful dialogue about the “Way Forward” for APHIS and the sheep industry.
John Baucus (Mont.) and Steve Clements (S.D.) represented the sheep industry during the meetings.
Discussions centered on achieving a greater mutual understanding of what the industry is facing in terms of concerns to its health and productivity (profitability), how APHIS can directly assist, how APHIS can facilitate others to assist and how the sheep industry can partner with APHIS and other federal entities and states to leverage greater resources to problem solving. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were also primary issues discussed.
