ASI Hosts Productivity Improvement Committee
June 2014
The Productivity Improvement Committee of the Lamb Industry Roadmap held a face-to-face meeting in Denver on May 13-14.
This committee is tasked with achieving an increase in productivity by promoting the use of quantitative genetic selection, reducing the seasonality of the industry and developing a long-term plan for sheep research and producer education.
Since these goals closely align with ASI’s Let’s Grow initiative and the work of the Producer Education and Research Council, ASI hosted the group.
Past and current productivity improvement projects were presented by the National Sheep Improvement Program, the Let’s Grow Committee and the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center to alleviate duplicative efforts. Brainstorming ways to achieve these goals resulted in a number of potential targeted projects that will continue to be flushed out in future meetings.
Productivity Improvement Committee members met in Denver last month.
