Cayle Krebs, 1985-2015
Cayle H. Krebs, 30, of Ione, died Saturday, June 20, 2015, as the result of a motor vehicle accident near Prineville.
He was born March 11, 1985, at The Dalles, Oregon, the son of Skye and Penny Patnode Krebs. Cayle was raised and attended school in Ione and Wallowa, graduating from Ione High School in 2003. He was an Ione Cardinal and active in all sports. Cayle was an all-star football player and a finalist in track and field events. He then graduated from Oregon State University in 2007.
After college he returned to the family ranch as a partner in the Krebs Sheep Company. Cayle was on the board of the Western Range Association, a member of the Oregon Sheep Growers and the Oregon Cattleman’s Association.
Survivors include his parents, Skye and Penny Krebs of Ione; fiancée Janey McCormack of Hermiston; sister Sybil Stewart and her husband Jason of Heppner; brother Kip Krebs and his fiancée Sarah, both of Ione; grandfather Henry Krebs and his wife Robin of Ione; grandmothers Dode Krebs of Pendleton, Oregon, and Syb Patnode of Cle Elum, Washington; and nephews Tripp Stewart and Jett Stewart of Heppner.
CSU’s Travis Hoffman Wins AMSA Competition
Travis Hoffman, a Ph.D. candidate at Colorado State University grabbed first place in the Ph.D. poster competition at the American Meat Science Association’s Reciprocal Meat Conference in Lincoln, Neb.
Hoffman’s research – entitled “Preferences Associated with American Lamb Quality in Retail & Foodservice Markets” – was the culmination of efforts from CSU and The Ohio State University. This project – also known as the National Lamb Quality Audit – was funded by the American Lamb Board and the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center.
“I would like to sincerely thank the sheep and lamb industry for funding this research,” Hoffman said. “Results indicated that retail and foodservice sectors consider lamb flavor the primary determinant of lamb quality, and a targeted focus on meeting customer expectations will improve marketability and customer satisfaction of American lamb.”
Hoffman and his family are longtime Corriedale sheep breeders in South Dakota.
