ASI Soliciting Nominations for ALB, NSIIC

ASI is accepting nominations for directors to serve in 2020 on both the American Lamb Board and the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center.

On ALB, there will be four openings in 2020: a producer with less than 100 lambs, a producer with more than 500 lambs, an at-large feeder and a first handler. Any U.S. producer, feeder or first handler who owns or purchases lambs may be considered for nomination.

The positions are open as producers Jim Percival and Diane Peavy, as well as feeder Dale Thorne and first handler Greg Ahart are not eligible for re-appointment in 2020.

The 13-member American Lamb Board is industry-funded and government-supervised, and supports the national marketing and promotion of sheep and sheep products.

The nomination form is available on the ASI website at Sheepusa.org/Resources_AlliedOrganizations_AlbNominations.

Recognized as a nominating organization by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, ASI will accept applications through April 17 for ALB positions before forwarding qualified applicants by USDA’s May 1 deadline.

NSIIC has two openings for 2020: one for a sheep producer and one for a person with expertise in finance and management. USDA is seeking at least two nominations for each of these positions.

The mission of the sheep center is to improve the infrastructure of the American sheep industry by strengthening and enhancing the production and marketing of sheep and sheep products. NSIIC makes capital available through industry grants in an effort to increase production and improve production efficiency.

The nomination form is available on the ASI website at Sheepusa.org/Resources_AlliedOrganizations_NsiicNominations.

Recognized as a nominating organization by USDA, ASI will accept NSIIC applications through April 17 before forwarding qualified applicants by USDA’s June 10 deadline.

Anyone interested in applying for either ALB or NSIIC should first consult with representatives from their state sheep association. Applications should be submitted to ASI Executive Director Peter Orwick at [email protected] and nominations will be considered by ASI’s Executive Board.
