ASI Applauds Recent Senate Confirmations
March 2, 2018
Senate approval for agriculture positions has been slow to come since President Trump’s inauguration in Jan. 2017, so it is with great pleasure that the American Sheep Industry Association welcomes the confirmations of Bill Northey and Gregg Doud this week.
Northey, the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, will fill the role of USDA under secretary for farm production and conservation. His confirmation, in particular, had long been delayed in the Senate.
“ASI is very pleased with the Senate vote to approve Bill Northey,” said ASI President Mike Corn. “Those of us in the sheep industry look forward to working with him through the Farm Service Agency and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. These are important areas for all sheep producers.”
Doud will serve as the agriculture negotiator to the U.S. Trade Representative. His background includes serving as senior staff on the Senate Agriculture Committee, where he assisted in drafting the 2012 Farm Bill. He also spent eight years as chief economist for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and understands how to advocate for American agriculture.
